Basra Reed Warbler

Acrocephalus griseldis (Hartlaub, 1891)

Acrocephalidae — Reed Warblers & Allies

Basra Reed Warbler, Acrocephalus griseldis, breeds in southern Iraq and winters in East Africa. It is a reed warbler of the Acrocephalidae family, first described by Hartlaub in 1891. In its breeding grounds it uses dense stands of papyrus and reeds, especially around shallow fresh or brackish water that may be still or flowing. It can be confused with the great reed warbler, but is smaller, with whiter underparts and a bill that is narrower, longer and more pointed. It also occurs in thickets and bushland on migration and in winter.
