Bassian Thrush

Zoothera lunulata (Latham, 1801)

Bassian Thrush, Zoothera lunulata, breeds in north-east, south-east and southern Australia, as well as Tasmania. It is a thrush of shrubland, forest and rainforest, and is also known as the olive-tailed thrush. The bird is mainly insect-eating and is found in the same broad region across its range. Its plumage is brown to olive, with a white eye-ring and black barring on the back, head and rear. The underparts are paler with dark scalloping, and the wings show a dark stripe along the underside. It was described by Latham in 1801.
