Bates's Sunbird, Cinnyris batesi, is a passerine of the sunbird family found in forests and rainforests from Ivory Coast and south-eastern Liberia east to south-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is a resident of the canopy in primary rainforest, and also occurs along forest edges, in secondary growth and in cultivated places with tall trees. The bird is very small and rather plain, with a short curved bill and a short tail. The male has dark olive upperparts, paler underparts, and long yellow plumes on the breast sides; the female is similar but with whiter, reduced plumes.
