Bay-backed Shrike, Lanius vittatus, is a shrike in the family Laniidae and is resident in South Asia. It is a smallish bird with a maroon-brown upper side, a pale rump and a long black tail edged in white. The underparts are white with buff on the flanks, while the crown and nape are grey and the face carries a black mask. A small white wing patch is also present, and the bill and legs are dark grey. Young birds are duller than adults. It breeds in scrub and cultivated areas, nesting in bushes.
