Bay-breasted Warbler

Setophaga castanea

The Bay-breasted Warbler is a small songbird known for its distinctive breeding plumage, which includes chestnut-colored head and underparts, contrasting with olive-green back and wings. During migration and winter, it adopts a more subdued appearance. This species breeds in mature coniferous and mixed forests of North America, and migrates to Central and South America. Its diet primarily consists of insects and spiders. The Bay-breasted Warbler is known for its high-pitched, buzzy song. While its breeding range is vast, it faces threats from habitat loss and climate change, leading to a conservation status of Near Threatened.
