Baya weaver

Ploceus philippinus

The Baya weaver is a small bird found in South and Southeast Asia. It is known for its intricately woven, gourd-shaped nests that hang from trees. The male Baya weaver has a bright yellow breeding plumage with a black face mask and throat, while the female is a duller brown color. These birds are highly social and often form large colonies, especially during the breeding season. They are primarily seed-eaters and forage in open grasslands, agricultural areas, and wetlands. The Baya weaver is not currently considered threatened, but habitat loss and trapping for the cage bird trade are potential concerns.
