Beach Thick-knee

Esacus magnirostris

The Beach Thick-knee (Esacus magnirostris) is a large, distinctive shorebird found in coastal areas of the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Australia. This species is characterized by its large body, long legs, and thick, powerful bill. Beach Thick-knees are predominantly nocturnal and are known for their loud, piercing calls during the breeding season. They are well-camouflaged in their sandy habitats and are adept at blending into their surroundings. These birds primarily feed on crabs, mollusks, and other small invertebrates found along the shoreline. Despite their relatively large size, Beach Thick-knees are agile and swift runners, allowing them to forage efficiently in their coastal environment.
