Bearded Wood Partridge

Dendrortyx barbatus Gould, 1846

Bearded Wood Partridge, Dendrortyx barbatus, is a galliform bird of the New World quail family found in central Mexico, in the Sierra Madre Oriental. Its breeding range is in Middle America, in c Mexico. It is a distinct member of Dendrortyx and is the only species in its genus with this combination of features. Adults show bluish grey on the cheeks, neck and upper breast, a red area around the eye, a buff crown with a small crest, and cinnamon on the nape and chest with red streaking. Immatures are similar, but the breast is duller and the flanks are barred.
