Bell's Sparrow

Artemisiospiza belli

Bell's Sparrow is a small, ground-dwelling bird found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is characterized by its pale gray-brown plumage with subtle streaking on the back and a pale throat. This species prefers open, arid habitats such as desert scrub, chaparral, and grasslands. Bell's Sparrow forages for seeds and insects on the ground and nests in low shrubs or on the ground. Its population is currently stable, but it faces threats from habitat loss and fragmentation.
