Berlepsch's Canastero

Berlepsch's Canastero, Asthenes berlepschi, is a bird of the ovenbird family found in north-west Bolivia. It is confined to the Consata River valley and its tributaries in north-central La Paz Department. This species stays in the same area all year. It lives mainly in semi-arid montane scrub, and is also recorded around pastures, farms and settlements, as well as in Polylepis woodland and Eucalyptus stands. It occurs between 2,300 and 3,700 m. The bird was described by Hellmayr in 1917 and commemorates Hans von Berlepsch.
