Bertram's Weaver

Ploceus bertrandi (Shelley, 1893)

Bertram's Weaver, Ploceus bertrandi, is a bird of the family Ploceidae found in Africa from northern Zambia and central Tanzania through Malawi to northern Mozambique. It is associated with the Eastern Arc forests and mountains of Malawi. The species was described by Shelley in 1893. Its name honours Bertram Lutley Sclater, whose father was the ornithologist Philip Lutley Sclater. Bertram Lutley Sclater served as a police commissioner in Malawi at the time Alexander Whyte found the bird.
