Bismarck Coucal

Centropus unirufus

The Bismarck Coucal (Centropus unirufus) is a medium-sized bird native to the Bismarck Archipelago in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. This bird is known for its distinctive reddish-brown plumage, long tail, and vibrant greenish-blue facial skin. It is a ground-dwelling species that forages for insects, small vertebrates, and fruits in the dense undergrowth of lowland forests. The Bismarck Coucal is known for its deep, resonant calls that echo through the forest. Although not much is known about its population trends, the species is believed to be relatively common within its range. However, habitat loss and degradation due to human activities may pose a threat to its long-term survival.
