Black-and-gold Cotinga, Lipaugus ater, is a passerine of the Cotingidae family found in south-eastern Brazil, where it is confined to the Atlantic Forest. It lives in humid montane forest and occurs in the extreme east of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, as well as southern Rio de Janeiro. The species is monotypic. Adult males are black with a large golden-yellow area on the wing flight feathers, while females are dull olive-green with yellower edges to the wings and belly.
