Black-and-white Mannikin, Spermestes bicolor, is a passerine finch of the Estrildidae family found across sub-Saharan Africa. It lives in moist savanna and in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. The bird is recognised in four subspecies, with forms recorded from Guinea-Bissau to Cameroon, through parts of central and eastern Africa, and south to South Africa. It was first described in 1843 by Fraser. The species is also known as black-and-white munia or red-backed mannikin, and the latter name has sometimes been used for two of its subspecies as a separate species.
