Myiagra atra

The Black-and-white Monarch (Myiagra atra) is a small passerine bird found in the forests of New Guinea and nearby islands. It is known for its striking black and white plumage, with a black head, back, and wings, and a contrasting white belly and underparts. This species is often observed foraging for insects in the dense forest canopy, using its agile flight and sharp beak to catch prey. The Black-and-white Monarch is typically found in lowland and hill forests, where it prefers dense vegetation and canopies for nesting and foraging. While not currently classified by the IUCN, its population is believed to be stable within its range.
