Black-and-white Monjita, Heteroxolmis dominicana, is a passerine of the Tyrannidae family that breeds in southern Brazil, north-eastern Argentina and Uruguay. It is a resident bird with a patchy range across marshes, bogs, open ground and some coastal dune edges, and it also uses grassland beside wetter places. It is the only member of its genus. The species was first described in 1823, and adults show clear differences between the sexes, with males mostly white and females more grey-brown above. Juveniles can be recognised by a rusty back.
