Black-backed Butcherbird

Black-backed Butcherbird, Cracticus mentalis, is a bird of southern New Guinea and Cape York Peninsula in north-eastern Australia, where it lives in savannah and open woodland. It belongs to the family Artamidae and was described by Salvadori and D’Albertis. Stocky in build, it has a large head, short wings and short legs. Its plumage is mainly black and white, with a black head, lower back and wings, and white throat, nape and underparts. The bill is pale bluish grey with a black tip and a hooked end.
