Black-backed Parrot

Touit melanonotus

The Black-backed Parrot (Touit melanonotus) is a small, colorful parrot found in the Amazon rainforest of South America. It has a predominantly green plumage with a black back, yellow underparts, and a red patch on the wing. These parrots are known for their playful and social nature, often seen in small flocks foraging for fruits, seeds, and flowers. They are also skilled at imitating sounds and calls. The Black-backed Parrot nests in tree cavities and is known for its acrobatic flight displays during courtship. Unfortunately, habitat loss and capture for the pet trade pose significant threats to their populations.
