Black-banded Crake, Rufirallus fasciatus, is a rail of the western Amazon Basin in South America, breeding in w Amazonia from southeastern Colombia through eastern Ecuador and south-central Peru to western Brazil. It lives in humid places with thick undergrowth, including secondary forest, overgrown farm plots in tropical evergreen forest, Heliconia thickets and Cecropia stands on river islands. It is a year-round resident. The bird was first described in 1868 by Sclater and Salvin, and it is now placed in Rufirallus after earlier use of other genera.
