Black-bellied Bustard

The Black-bellied Bustard, scientifically known as Heterotetrax vigorsii, is a striking bird found in the grasslands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. This medium-sized bustard is known for its distinctive black belly, white throat, and brown upperparts. Males have a striking black face and throat with a white stripe above the eye, while females have a more cryptic plumage. Black-bellied Bustards are ground-dwelling birds and are often seen foraging for insects and seeds. Their distinctive booming call is a characteristic sound of the African grasslands. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the conservation status of the Black-bellied Bustard is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
