Black-bellied Bustard
Lissotis melanogaster
The Black-bellied Bustard, scientifically known as Lissotis melanogaster, is a medium-sized bird found in the grasslands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. This species is known for its striking black belly and white underparts, with a mottled brown and buff upper plumage. The male has a distinctive black face and throat, while the female has a more cryptic plumage for camouflage. Black-bellied Bustards are primarily ground-dwelling birds, foraging for insects, seeds, and small vertebrates. They are often observed performing elaborate courtship displays, including inflating their necks and producing booming calls. This species faces threats from habitat loss and hunting in some areas.
