Black-bellied Swallow

Cecropis melanocrissus

The Black-bellied Swallow (Cecropis melanocrissus) is a medium-sized swallow found in parts of Africa. It is characterized by its glossy blue-black upperparts, white underparts, and a distinctive black belly patch. These agile birds are often seen in open habitats, including savannas, grasslands, and agricultural areas, where they feed on flying insects. They are known for their acrobatic flight and often gather in large flocks. The Black-bellied Swallow constructs cup-shaped nests from mud, which are typically attached to vertical surfaces such as cliffs or buildings. While their populations are currently stable, they may face threats from habitat loss and pesticide use.
