Phaethornis stuarti

The Black-bellied Thorntail is a small hummingbird species found in the Andes of South America. It is known for its distinctive black belly and iridescent green plumage on the upperparts. The male has a striking violet-blue throat patch, while the female has a white throat and belly. These birds are often found in montane cloud forests, where they feed on nectar from a variety of flowers and also catch small insects. They are known for their agile flight and the characteristic whirring sound of their wings. The Black-bellied Thorntail plays an important role in pollination and is a delightful sight to birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
