Black-billed Nightingale-Thrush

Neoctantes niger

The Black-billed Nightingale-Thrush is a medium-sized thrush found in the cloud forests of Central and South America. It has a dark olive-brown upper body and a white or buffy underbody with dark spots. This species is known for its beautiful, flute-like song that echoes through the forest understory. It forages on the forest floor for insects, spiders, and small fruits. The Black-billed Nightingale-Thrush plays an important role in the ecosystem by dispersing seeds and controlling insect populations. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to its populations.
