Black-breasted Weaver

Ploceus benghalensis

The Black-breasted Weaver (Ploceus benghalensis) is a small passerine bird native to South Asia. The male sports a striking black and yellow plumage with a distinctive black bib on its breast, while the female is more subdued with a brownish-yellow coloration. These weavers are known for their intricate, pendulous nests, which they construct in colonies on trees near water bodies. They are often found in open woodland, grassland, and agricultural areas, where they forage for seeds and insects. Despite being common in their range, habitat loss and trapping for the cage bird trade are potential threats to their populations. The conservation status of the Black-breasted Weaver is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
