Black-browed albatross

Thalassarche melanophris

The Black-browed albatross is a large seabird known for its striking appearance, with a white body, black upper wings, and a distinct black eyebrow stripe. These majestic birds are highly skilled at gliding over the open ocean for long distances, using their impressive wingspan to soar effortlessly. They are known for their graceful flight and are often observed following ships in search of food. Black-browed albatrosses are colonial breeders, nesting on remote islands in the Southern Ocean. They primarily feed on fish and squid, using their keen eyesight to spot prey from the air. Unfortunately, they face threats from bycatch in fishing gear and habitat degradation.
