Black Bushbird, Neoctantes niger, is a bird of western Amazonia in South America, recorded from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. It belongs to the antbird family and was first described in 1859. The species is the only member of its genus. It is a stocky bird with a short tail and a bill that turns upwards. Adult males are black apart from a small white mark between the shoulders, while females are sooty black with a rufous breast and upper belly. It lives in lowland evergreen forest, especially dense growth near edges, treefalls and swampy streams.
