Black Butcherbird

Black Butcherbird Melloria quoyi lives in the New Guinea region and northern Australia, within the family Artamidae. It is a butcherbird of subtropical and tropical dry forest, moist lowland forest and mangrove forest. Adults are entirely black apart from a grey bill with a black tip. Juveniles are usually rufous-brown, though some are black and some brown birds may keep that plumage into adulthood. It is the only butcherbird with a wholly black body, and it can be mistaken for crows or currawongs, which it differs from by its grey, hooked bill.
