Black-capped Bushtit

Aegithalos bonvaloti

The Black-capped Bushtit, scientifically known as Aegithalos bonvaloti, is a small passerine bird found in the mountainous regions of central and eastern China. It is characterized by its distinctive black cap, white underparts, and olive-green upperparts. This species is known for its active and acrobatic foraging behavior, often moving in small flocks through the dense vegetation in search of insects and spiders. The Black-capped Bushtit builds intricate, hanging bottle-shaped nests using moss, lichen, and spider silk. Its melodious calls and high-pitched chirps are often heard in the mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests where it resides.
