Black-capped Chickadee

Melaniparus guineensis

The Black-capped Chickadee, scientifically known as Melaniparus guineensis, is a small passerine bird found in the forests and woodlands of West Africa. It is known for its distinctive black cap and bib, white cheeks, and grayish back. These agile and acrobatic birds are often seen foraging for insects, seeds, and berries in the canopy and understory of trees. They are also known for their distinctive chick-a-dee-dee-dee call. Black-capped Chickadees are adaptable and can be found in a variety of habitats, including deciduous and mixed forests, as well as urban and suburban areas. They are not currently considered at risk and are classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
