Pterodroma hasitata (Kuhl, 1820)

Black-capped Petrel, Pterodroma hasitata, is a seabird of the Atlantic and Caribbean, breeding in montane Hispaniola and Dominica, with possible breeding also in Cuba and Jamaica. It nests in burrows in remote highland areas, and the breeding forms are known as black-faced and white-faced. Outside the breeding season it ranges through the Caribbean Sea, and also reaches Gulf Stream waters from southern Canada to North Carolina and continental shelf waters as far south as Florida. It is a member of the petrel family and was described by Kuhl in 1820.
