Black-cheeked Warbler

Basileuterus melanogenys

The Black-cheeked Warbler is a small, insectivorous bird found in the highland forests of Central America. It is characterized by its olive-green upperparts, bright yellow underparts, and distinctive black cheek patch. These warblers forage actively in the dense undergrowth, hopping and flitting in search of insects and spiders. They are often heard before they are seen, with their high-pitched, rapid trills and chattering calls. The species is known for its preference for cloud forests and montane oak forests, where it can be found at varying elevations. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Black-cheeked Warbler faces conservation concerns.
