Black-chested Jay

Cyanocorax affinis

The Black-chested Jay (Cyanocorax affinis) is a striking bird found in the highlands of Central and South America. It has a glossy black head, neck, and chest, with a contrasting bright blue back and wings. This species is known for its raucous calls and social behavior, often seen in small groups foraging for fruits, insects, and small vertebrates. The Black-chested Jay plays an important role in seed dispersal and ecosystem maintenance. It is a highly adaptable species, thriving in a variety of forested habitats, including montane cloud forests and edges of humid forests. However, it is vulnerable to habitat loss and fragmentation due to deforestation and human encroachment.
