Black-chinned Sparrow

Spizella atrogularis

The Black-chinned Sparrow is a small bird found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is characterized by its grayish-brown plumage, black throat patch, and distinctive white eyering. This species is often found in arid scrublands, chaparral, and open woodlands with sparse undergrowth. The Black-chinned Sparrow forages on the ground for seeds and insects and is known for its melodious song. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation pose potential threats to its populations.
