Black-collared Bulbul, Neolestes torquatus, is a passerine in the bulbul family that breeds in southern Gabon, Congo and western DR Congo, from southern DR Congo to central Angola, and in Rwanda and eastern DR Congo. It was described by Cabanis in 1875. It is the only species in Neolestes. For a long time, its placement was uncertain because of its resemblance to birds in the bushshrike and shrike groups, but genetic work in 1999 confirmed its position in Pycnonotidae. It occurs in dry savanna and grassland in equatorial Africa.
