Black Coucal
Centropus ateralbus
The Black Coucal (Centropus ateralbus) is a medium-sized bird native to the forests and woodlands of Africa. It is known for its striking black plumage with a glossy sheen and a long, graduated tail. The species is primarily insectivorous, foraging on the forest floor and in low vegetation for insects and small invertebrates. The Black Coucal is a secretive bird, often heard but not easily seen due to its shy and elusive nature. It builds its nest in dense vegetation and is known for its distinctive deep, resonant call. While not currently considered threatened, the species may face habitat loss and degradation in some parts of its range.
