Icterus prosthemelas
The Black-cowled Oriole (Icterus prosthemelas) is a striking bird found in the tropical forests of Central and South America. This oriole species is known for its vibrant black and yellow plumage, with a distinctive black hood and bright yellow body. They are often observed foraging for insects and fruits in the canopy, where their melodious songs can be heard echoing through the dense foliage. These orioles are highly adaptable and can be found in a variety of forested habitats, including humid lowland forests, montane forests, and forest edges. While their populations are currently stable, deforestation and habitat loss pose potential threats to their long-term survival.
