Black-cowled Saltator, Saltator nigriceps, is a passerine in the Thraupidae family that breeds in far southern Ecuador and northern Peru. It is associated with subtropical or tropical dry forest and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. Its black-cowled appearance is the feature that gives the bird its common name. Described by Chapman in 1914, it belongs to the order Passeriformes and is part of the tanager group and allies.
