The Black-crested Tit-Tyrant is a small passerine bird found in the Andes of South America. It is characterized by its black crest, white underparts, and grayish upperparts. This species is often found in high-altitude cloud forests and montane scrub habitats, where it forages for insects and small invertebrates. The Black-crested Tit-Tyrant is known for its energetic and acrobatic foraging behavior, often seen hopping and flitting among branches in search of prey. Although not much is known about its population trends, this species is generally considered to be of Least Concern according to the IUCN Red List.
