Cuculus clamosus Latham, 1801

Cuculidae — Cuckoos

Black Cuckoo, Cuculus clamosus, is a cuckoo that breeds widely across Africa. It is found across sub-Saharan Africa, from Liberia to Ethiopia and south to Angola and South Africa. In the southern part of its range it breeds from September to December before moving north and east later in the year. It lives in woodland, thickets, riverside growth, plantations and trees near villages, while avoiding the middle of dense forest. Two subspecies are recognised, with plumage that differs between them.
