Black-eared Miner

Gliciphila melanops

The Black-eared Miner is a small, social honeyeater native to Australia. It has a distinctive black patch behind the eye, contrasting with its pale yellow underparts and olive-green upperparts. This species is known for its complex social structure and cooperative breeding behavior, with multiple individuals helping to raise the young. Black-eared Miners are primarily found in open woodlands and shrublands, where they forage for nectar, insects, and lerps. Unfortunately, their population has declined due to habitat loss and fragmentation, leading to their classification as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
