Black-eared Wheatear

Oenanthe hispanica

The Black-eared Wheatear (Oenanthe hispanica) is a small to medium-sized passerine bird found in open, rocky habitats across southern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. This species is characterized by its striking black ear coverts, white supercilium, and pale underparts. The upperparts are predominantly gray, and the tail is black with white outer feathers. Black-eared Wheatears are insectivorous and can often be seen perched on rocks or low bushes, scanning the ground for prey. They are known for their distinctive song, a series of melodious whistles. This species is not currently considered to be at risk and is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
