The Black-eared Wheatear (Oenanthe lugens) is a small passerine bird found in open, arid habitats across Europe, Asia, and Africa. This species is known for its striking black mask and throat, contrasting with a pale grey-brown body. Black-eared Wheatears are ground-dwelling birds, often perching on rocks or low bushes to hunt for insects and small invertebrates. They are known for their distinctive song, consisting of melodious warbles and trills. These birds are highly migratory, spending the breeding season in Europe and western Asia before migrating to wintering grounds in Africa. The Black-eared Wheatear is not currently considered to be at risk, with a stable population and a wide distribution.
