Black-faced Bunting

Emberiza spodocephala

The Black-faced Bunting (Emberiza spodocephala) is a small passerine bird found in East Asia. It is known for its distinctive black face mask and yellow underparts. The upperparts are streaked brown, and the tail is often white-edged. This species inhabits open woodlands, grasslands, and agricultural areas, where it forages for seeds and insects on the ground. During the breeding season, the male performs a courtship display, singing from a prominent perch. The Black-faced Bunting is a migratory species, breeding in eastern Russia and northern China and wintering in Southeast Asia. Its population is considered stable, and it is not currently considered at risk of extinction.
