Black-faced Cormorant

Phalacrocorax fuscicollis

The Black-faced Cormorant, scientifically known as Phalacrocorax fuscicollis, is a seabird species found in coastal regions of southern Australia and New Zealand. This medium-sized cormorant is characterized by its black plumage, white chin and throat, and a distinctive yellow patch on its face. It primarily feeds on fish and crustaceans, diving underwater to catch its prey. The Black-faced Cormorant nests in colonies on rocky cliffs or offshore islands, often in close proximity to other seabird species. While not currently classified as threatened, this species faces potential threats from habitat disturbance, pollution, and changes in prey availability.
