Black Guan

Chamaepetes unicolor

The Black Guan (Chamaepetes unicolor) is a species of bird in the Cracidae family, found in the cloud forests of Central America. It is a medium-sized bird, with predominantly black plumage, a distinctive red dewlap, and a yellow bill. The Black Guan is known for its shy and elusive nature, often foraging in the dense undergrowth for fruits, seeds, and insects. Its haunting calls can be heard echoing through the misty forests. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the Black Guan is facing conservation challenges, and its population is declining. Conservation efforts are underway to protect its remaining habitat and ensure its survival.
