Black-headed Bunting

Emberiza melanocephala

The Black-headed Bunting is a small passerine bird found in Europe and western Asia. The male has a striking black head and white throat, with a bright yellow breast and chestnut-brown back. Females and juveniles have a more subdued plumage, with streaked brown and buff colors. These buntings prefer open habitats such as grasslands, agricultural fields, and scrubby areas, where they forage for seeds and insects. They are known for their distinctive song, often delivered from a prominent perch. The Black-headed Bunting is not globally threatened and is considered to be of Least Concern by the IUCN.
