Black-headed Gonolek, Laniarius erythrogaster, is a bushshrike found in Africa from eastern Nigeria and northern Cameroon through Eritrea, western Ethiopia, western Kenya, northern Tanzania and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It also occurs in Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. It is a distinctive bird, and it is generally shy and retiring. Near people and in gardens it becomes bolder. Its call is notable because the pair give it together, with the male producing a clear bell-like note and the female answering almost at once with a harsh grating reply.
