Black-headed Weaver

Ploceus melanogaster

The Black-headed Weaver (Ploceus melanogaster) is a small to medium-sized bird found in eastern Africa. It is known for its striking black head, bright yellow body, and intricate woven nests. These weavers are highly social birds and are often found in large colonies, particularly in savannah woodlands and grasslands. They are skilled at building complex, gourd-shaped nests, often suspended from the tips of branches. The Black-headed Weaver primarily feeds on seeds and insects. While the species is not currently considered globally threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation in some parts of its range may pose localized conservation concerns.
