Ploceus melanocephalus
The Black-headed Weaver is a small songbird found in sub-Saharan Africa. Males are easily recognized by their striking black head and bright yellow body, while females have a more subdued olive-green plumage. These weavers are known for their intricately woven, gourd-shaped nests, which are often suspended from the tips of branches. They are highly social birds and are often found in large flocks, particularly during the breeding season. Black-headed Weavers feed primarily on seeds and insects, foraging in open grasslands, savannas, and agricultural areas. Despite some localized threats, the species is generally widespread and not considered to be at significant risk.
